1.      Break down study items into small pieces

By breaking down a large section of material into smaller pieces, your short-term memory can grasp the information better. Our short-term memory can be easily overwhelmed by too much information. Breaking down the material also helps to hold information more easily in your long-term memory.

2.      Play games

To exercise your brain, it helps to play games that focus on handling information quickly and correctly. Games like these can help to specifically train your memory.

3.      Stimulate your mind

As you may know, human memory is greatly connected to the five senses. Regularly sending your brain a variety of sensory stimuli will help to keep it active, which aids working memory.

4.      Practice active listening

When you actively listen to a lecture or video, you are actually engaging all of your senses, allowing you to better retain information. While taking notes can be beneficial, do not use  notetaking as an excuse to simply passively listen when someone is speaking to you.

5.      Use flashcards

Do not simply write flashcards and forget about them. Instead, make sure you are actively using them to study. Flashcards are particularly good for memorizing factual information, like definitions and dates.
