Learn How Motivation Promotes Success

It is common knowledge that if you want to succeed, you must have some level of motivation. But did you know that there are 3 kinds of motivation that can either benefit an individual, or result in unforeseen consequences?  Here at TAPA Institute, we know that to pass the CPA exam, our students must be motivated to succeed.

The three forms of motivation are:

1.     Extrinsic

People motivated extrinsically hope to pass their CPA exam for a specific reason, like obtaining a promotion or a raise.  This person is outwardly driven and if they do not pass the CPA exam within a certain time frame, or don’t pass at all, it leaves them demoralized and disappointed.

2.     Intrinsic

Intrinsic motivation comes from within the individual’s personal nature. Their own drive for excellence or passion for accounting, drives their desire to pass the CPA exam.  If this individual fails a section of the exam, they can fall into placing great pressure on themselves to pass due to external factors.

3.     Extrinsic-Autonomous

This is the most desirable motivation to possess when taking the CPA exam.  It has some qualities from both extrinsic and intrinsic motivations; however, this individual is driven by the value they place on becoming a CPA.  They are all about self-determination, and have a positive internalized attitude because of the pure accomplishment, regardless of the result.

Before taking yourCPA exam, evaluate why you are taking the exam and whether your motivation is from internal, external or self-determined reasons.  Here at TAPA Institute, we help motivate our clients as well as prepare them for their exam.  To learn more about us and how we can help you pass the CPA exam, visit www.tapainstitute.com.
