Five Simple Ways to Unwind

Preparing for your CPA exam can be tough. It requires a lot of time and energy that can leave you feeling stressed or just simply more tired than usual. To combat these feelings, it is good to take time for yourself at the end of every day to calm down and unwind. Here are five strategies for unwinding after a long day:

1.      Get creative

After a long day of studying facts and figures, and all things accounting, being creative can be the best thing for your mind. Whether it is writing, drawing, coloring, painting, knitting, or anything else, tapping into your creative side may help you to release some stress and unwind.

2.      Listen to music

For some people, listening to music is one of the best ways to unwind. Music can help you to relax and focus on something other than your thoughts. Music has also been shown to help relieve anxiety in people and even improve their mood.

3.      Keep a journal

One of the best ways to release your emotions is to journal or keep a diary. Writing down how you feel it can help you to relieve stress or any negative emotions you are feeling. On the other hand, instead of focusing on the negative, it can also be helpful to write down positive things like what you are grateful for every day to look back on when you are feeling stressed.

4.      Take a hot shower

The hot water from a shower can actually help to relieve stress and help you relax after a long day. By taking a relaxing shower before bed, you release the tension and find it is easier to fall asleep.

5.      Talk to someone

Talking about how you're feeling with your partner, a friend, or a family member about your day may help you to unwind. It may also help to talk to them about their day to get your mind off of your own thoughts.

Taking some time to unwind is extremely important when juggling your studies, work, and other responsibilities every day. Here at TAPA Institute we to stress to our clients how important it is to take some time to unwind every day to make sure they don’t get burnt out as they prepare for their CPA exam.
