So, you’ve decided that you want to work within the field of accounting, but you don’t know if the tax world or the auditing world is better for you. To choose which world is better suited to you, you must first evaluate your interests and personality. While both career paths are share several similarities, one path will suit you better than the other, depending on your personality.

Within the tax world, you will be doing a lot of solo work, such as researching, reading, and analyzing. Overall, you will be spending a lot of time at your desk doing work by yourself. Because of this, if you are typically more introverted, shy, or simply more of a homebody who doesn’t love to travel, you will probably prefer to work in the tax world

Unlike in the tax world, in audit you will be expected to interact with your clients more. This requires auditors to have strong communication and people skills. Auditors also travel often to spend more face-to-face time with their clients If you tend to be more extroverted and personable, auditing is probably a better career choice for you.
