How to Avoid Procrastination

Procrastination often leads to a decrease in productivity, but an increase in stress! Here are some ways that you can avoid procrastination and complete your daily tasks or assignments efficiently:

1.      Get Organized!

A messy workspace or study space will lead to a messy mind. Always make sure that your desk is clean, and your head is clear before starting a new assignment.

2.      Make a To-Do List!

Write down a list of priorities, ranging from most to least important, that you must achieve that day or that week. Writing down your assignments and separating them into small groups can often put things in perspective and make them seem less daunting. Physically checking off each task one by one will also help you to feel more productive and less stressed.

3.      Reward Yourself!

Don’t go get your favorite Starbucks drink before you begin studying – reward yourself with it afterwards! These little rewards will help to keep you motivated and focused on your tasks as opposed to distracting you.

4.      Turn off your phone!

We all know that in today’s world we can be very easily distracted by our phones and social media. To avoid being distracted, turn off your phone or set it to “Do Not Disturb”, so that you are not distracted by text messages or other notifications. If you want to go one step further, delete your social media apps for an hour or two this way you cannot easily open your phone and start scrolling through Instagram and Twitter instead of doing your work.

5.      Break It Down!

If you have one large task that is looming over your head like a storm cloud, break down the task into smaller, more manageable parts. Do not be afraid to start as early as possible so you can complete your assignment one small step at a time as opposed to tackling it in its entirety all at once!
